5 Ways to Make your Bathroom Safe

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house but it can also be one of the most dangerous. There are many different ways for you to make it safer for yourself, your family, or any guests that you happen to have over, and it all starts with getting rid of the throw rugs. They’re not the best of the bathroom accessories and they can be outright dangerous!

Step 1: Get Rid of your Throw Rugs – They’re Not Great Bathroom Accessories

Throw rugs look good but they’re not designed to be in your bathroom, not by any means. The problem with a throw rug is two fold:

  1. Throw rugs absorb moisture and they can be very difficult to clean. They can develop mold and they become very messy.
  2. Throw rugs do not have a rubber backing and as such they are unable to grip the bathroom floor. These haphazard coverings are, therefore, the #1 cause of household falls. To summarize, throw rugs were never intended for the bathroom floor or any other tile floor.

Step 2: Keep your Bathroom Floor Dry!

To keep your bathroom safe, make sure you’re not going to slip the moment you step off of the carpet and onto the tile.  After your shower, wipe it down with a dry towel, especially if you splashed as you were exiting the shower. Some shower sets spray more than others, so keep that in mind! The same logic applies to the toilet and the sink!

Step 3: Watch Out for Scalding Water

The second part of this tip is to Make can cause scalding and second to third degree burns depending on the severity. Test the water before you immerse yourself beneath your shower head: you could be saving your own life.

Step 4: Install Grab Bars

Having grab bars in the shower, tub, and toilet are going to save you a lot of trouble. They’ll keep you from falling and they’ll help you to get up when you need to. You might not feel as if you need them now, but they’ll certainly be great for guests who require them.

Step 5: Keep Potentially Poisonous Cleaning Products Out of Reach

You need cleaning supplies in your bathroom but you also need to observe safety protocols. Don’t leave your cleaning supplies with your other bathroom accessories or even in your shower baskets where they could be mistaken for bath products.

Keeping your bathroom safe is easy; all you need to do is follow the above steps and make sure you continue following them. Your bathroom can be a dangerous place, but keep it in check and you’ll have an enjoyable experience!
